I’m a Houston bankruptcy attorney focused exclusively on helping individuals, families, and small businesses get the fresh start they deserve. I handle cases from Chapter 7 liquidations to complex Chapter 11 reorganizations, including Subchapter V small business restructurings, because I believe in taking on whatever my clients need.
Having navigated financial hardship myself, I understand that behind every bankruptcy filing is a human story. That personal experience informs how I treat every client: with honesty, without judgment, and with my full attention.
Why I Started This Firm
In 2025, I founded the Law Office of Jeremy T. Wood, PLLC with a clear purpose: to provide serious, focused bankruptcy representation to people who need a real advocate, not a large firm where you become a file number. After years solving complex problems for government agencies and major corporations, I made a deliberate choice to apply those skills where they matter most — helping real people through their most challenging financial moments.
My Background
Before opening my practice, I built a career solving hard problems in demanding environments:
- U.S. Coast Guard Legal Support: I advised on legal, policy, and technical matters — work that sharpened my attention to detail and taught me to navigate complex regulatory systems
- Department of Homeland Security: I reviewed data and drafted policy documents, which gave me practice translating complicated regulations into clear, plain-language guidance
- Energy Sector Consultant: I solved multifaceted problems for major corporations, giving me real insight into how businesses operate and how financial pressure can build until something breaks
This background means I bring more than legal knowledge to your case. I bring real-world problem-solving skills and a genuine understanding of how financial systems work.

Teaching & Community
I serve as the Bankruptcy Professor for the Debtor’s Rights Clinic at South Texas College of Law Houston, where I earned my J.D. In that role, I train the next generation of bankruptcy attorneys while overseeing the clinic’s pro bono Chapter 7 program, which provides full legal representation to low-income individuals who deserve a path forward regardless of their ability to pay.
My Approach to Bankruptcy Law
I exclusively practice bankruptcy law in the Eastern and Southern Districts of Texas. My caseload spans the full range of consumer and business bankruptcy:
- Chapter 7: Liquidation bankruptcy for a clean, fast fresh start
- Chapter 13: Wage earner repayment plans designed around your life
- Chapter 11 : Reorganization for individuals and small businesses with more complex needs
What makes this practice different is simple: you will always work directly with me, not a paralegal or junior associate.
Every question gets a real answer. Every concern gets my attention.
Beyond the Credentials
My path to bankruptcy law wasn’t traditional, and I wouldn’t change it. Having faced my own financial challenges, I know that bankruptcy isn’t failure. It’s a legal tool that exists precisely for moments like the one you may be in right now: a medical crisis, a job loss, a business setback, or simply circumstances that spiraled beyond your control. The law exists to give you a way out. My job is to help you claim it.
